Declining Groundwater and Dry Wells

Groundwater levels have been dropping in rural areas of Arizona, and some homeowners with private wells have been bearing the cost. When wells run dry, people must pay large sums to drill deeper. Pumping remains unregulated in many areas, so big companies with deep wells can continue to pump unlimited quantities.

Journalists at The Arizona Republic spent months investigating which companies are among the major water users, how declines in groundwater levels are affecting people, and how the consequences could play out for generations to come.

We want to hear about groundwater problems in your area. Do you have a failing well or a dry well? Do you have a question or a tip to share?
